Three Days, Three Quotes (Day 1)

I’m very excited! I’ve been nominated for a WordPress Challenge for the very first time. I guess it means that my little blog is getting out there.

And it’s something dear to my heart – quotes!

For three consequetive days I have to find a quote and nominate three more bloggers. Hmmm … this is now sounding a little like a chain letter, except no one is promising me that 100 chocolate bars or postcards from around the world will arrive in the post at the end of the month.

First of all, thanks to Wit and Whimsy for nominating me.

hilary mantel quote

This is my first quote, from Hilary Mantel’s A Place of Greater Safety. It’s one of my absolute favourites and I think I shall soon need a new copy. Even if historical novels are not your favourite (this one is about the French Revolution) you must read it, because her writing style is a joy to read, full of black sparkle. (That’s what it says on the back cover.)

Make sure the valuation you put on yourself is high.

In other words: Never sell yourself short. Believe in yourself. Don’t let anyone put you down. Treat yourself as well as you want others to treat you.

Easy words to say, but sometimes difficult to believe in. It took me a very long time to believe in them, so I know it can be hard. But once you do … it’s like light flooding into your life. When you believe that you deserve happiness, when you have the confidence to go for everything you know you deserve, it turns your whole life around. Or makes it amazing from the get-go, if you never had any occasion to doubt yourself.

Now I pass the words onto you.

And I nominate:
